Final day to pay respects to the late King at Sanam Luang

Thursday October 5th was the last day on which the public could visit the Royal palace in Bangkok to pay respects to the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Tens of thousands of Thai people queued in a 2 kilometer long line throughout the day. At 1.30am on the morning of October 06th Chumpon Hinpha, a Bangkok resident, was the last person allowed to enter. Chompon said he was glad that he made it on the last day, and it was his 4th visit.
As soon as the palace doors closed, volunteers rushed to restore and improve the surroundings ahead of the funeral procession rehearsals and the Royal Cremation Ceremony on October 26th. On the final day around 110,800 people came to pay their last respects.
Over the last 337 days, twelve million seven hundred and thirty nine thousand five hundred and thirty one people have made the pilgrimage.
