Last week the governor of Thailand’s Angthong province, Weerawut Putrasenee, launched a trash bank at the provincial city hall. Sixty six participants brought all sorts of rubbish on the first day. The governor says this type of rubbish bank is unique in Thailand and those wanting to dispose of rubbish are required to open deposit account. The bank then weighs the rubbish and compensations, credited directly to the depositor’s account, are based on the type and quantity of rubbish they bring. Account holders can withdraw cash providing the balance does not fall below one hundred baht.
