Over the weekend, a clip of twenty European tourists standing on shallow-water coral reefs on Thailand’s Phi Phi Island was shared on social media. When a diver, who videotaped the incident, tried to warn them about their wrongdoing, one of the tourists challenged him to inform the authorities. Once informed, Mr Worapot Lomlim, chief of the Noppharat Thara-Mu Koh Phi Phi national park, decided to impose a one thousand baht fine on the owner of the Phi Phi Seaborne tour boat and the foreign tour guide. The park chief also asked park personnel to be clearer when explaining what tourists can and cannot do.
