On March the first, Thailand’s northern city of Lampang, ninety seven kilometers from Chiangmai, was covered with haze caused by forest fires. The pollution affected visibility and increased the quantity of airborne of particles, measuring between eighty and eighty eight micrograms per cubic meter. The forest fires are the result of many days without rain. The forest fire center reported a number of fires in several areas, including Mae Wa National Park, in which at least 8 hectares has been burnt. Some of the fires were lit by farmers to burn agricultural waste.
