June the fifth is World Environment Day and this year three students, from Chiangrai Municipality school ha-denha in Thailand, showcased their creative environmental innovations. They are flower pots made from dried leaves. The girls demonstrated how to make the geometric pots, starting from mixing dry leaves with a starch based glue. Once the two ingredients blended together, the mixture is poured into moulds. The final process is to put the moulds in direct sunlight to dry. The young inventors say the idea comes from trying to find an alternative and environmentally friendly way to use fallen leaves, rather than just burning them and creating even more pollution.
