BEACH BOMBS
On December the twenty eighth, police reopened Thailand’s Samila beach in Songkhla after police ordered the beach closed yesterday as three more explosive devices were defused near the famous Golden Mermaid statue. Two bombs rocked the popular beach on Wednesday night, causing damage to the Golden Mermaid Statue and the Cat and Mouse Sculpture. Fortunately no one was injured. The explosions coincided with Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan’s visit to the province. He believed the attack was intended to cause chaos during the New Year Festival and claimed authorities already know who is behind the bombings. The mermaid statue is now undergoing repairs.
