The story of Panisra Lachomjai, a thirty-seven year-old chef from Thailand’s Singburi province, has gone viral. She has designed biodegradable krathongs, which are made of corn puffs. The snack kids enjoy so much are now being turned to colourful krathongs in all shapes and sizes ready for next week’s Loy Krathong festival. Cartoon characters and animals are most popular designs. Panisra says that she does not use glue, but water to hold the corn puffs together. By doing this she does not harm the environment or the fish. Once in the water, the krathongs quickly dissolve, turning into food for the fish.
