After harvesting latex from his rubber trees, 68 year-old Prayong Kunprai, from Huai Yot district in Thailand’s Trang province, spends his spare time voluntarily repairing a one kilometer local road. For the past three years, Loong Keaw, as he is known locally, gathers soil and gravel to mend the road that leads to the village. Hundreds of vehicles run along this road everyday creating a lot of potholes. In some parts, cement is needed and Loong Kaew uses his own money to buy it, receiving praise from his community. Some bring him much needed equipment like a wheelbarrow, spades and even gravel to help him continue his voluntary project.
