The young footballers recently rescued from a flooded cave in Thailand’s Chiangrai have all had their heads shaved at Phra That Doi Wao on Tuesday before their Buddhist ordination ceremony in honor of Saman Kunan, a former Thai Navy Seal who died during the mission to rescue them. With the exception of Adul Sam-on who is Christian, the boys wore yellow robes as they become Buddhist novices. They will stay in a monastery for nine days while their coach, Ekaphon Chanthawon age 25, was ordained as a monk and will stay longer. The ceremony was attended by dozens of well-wishers including Saman’s widow.
