Many people from Trang National Marine Park and Hat Noppharat Thara National Park on Phi Phi Island in Thailand’s Krabi province have come together to restore damaged coral in Maya Bay through the use of coral propagation techniques. Four hundred pieces of artificial reef are strapped back onto dying natural reefs to grow and become reproductive. The results will be closely monitored by drone for one year. The department of National Parks, wildlife and plant conservation of Thailand has ordered Maya Bay closed for four months, between June first and September 30th, in an attempt to stop the devastation and to allow the ecosystem to recover.
