On June the eighteenth, Thailand’s Department of Corrections executed a twenty six year old convicted murderer by lethal injection. This was the first execution in Thailand for nine years. Theerasak Longji was convicted of the brutal slaying of a school boy during a robbery on July the seventeenth, two thousand and twelve in Trang province. The execution followed appeals where Thailand’s Supreme Court upheld earlier civil and appeal court decisions. Amnesty International supporters protested against the death penalty in front of the jail and on their Facebook pages, stirring anger among Thais who asked Amnesty to show support for the family of the victim.
