On June the thirteenth, reports reached Thailand’s Mae Sot border town that a monsoon storm had hit the Myanmar town of Taungdwingyi. An alarming clip shows a golden pagoda, located on the banks of the Irrawaddy River in Taungdwingyi , suddenly collapsing due to erosion by the strong current following many days of heavy rain. The incident happened as a number of residents were rushing to remove Buddha statues from around the pagoda as the river level increased. Many parts of Myanmar have been affected by monsoon weather over the past two weeks, forcing more than five thousand people to leave their homes and severely affecting transport in the area.
