On June the eleventh, Thai media widely reported about tons of garbage covering a number of beaches in Thailand’s Chonburi Province. Even though beach food vendors and city employees continue to collect it, more is floating ashore on strong waves. The mountain of waste has now begun to impact tourism with tourists abandoning the beaches. Local Government officials have now ordered a widespread cleanup of most of the beaches, explaining that Chonburi’s beaches see increased amounts of rubbish during the monsoon season and that it comes from tourists, locals and cargo ships.
