In the early morning of May the third, police received a report claiming that a foreigner had been stabbed to death at a guesthouse in Bangkok’s old city. Witnesses said Leo Alexander, a French tourist who was staying at the guesthouse, had intervened in a fight between a Thai man and another Frenchman before being stabbed in the chest by Peh, the Thai man. The report said Peh had been drinking and he attempted to urinate into a nearby canal but was warned by the passing Frenchman. When they had started to quarrel, Leo stepped in. Peh escaped after the incident, but was soon arrested.
