SATUN’S NEW UNESCO SITE

Satun Geopark has been named as Thailand’s first Unesco Global Geopark for its renowned natural beauty and geological significance. On April the seventeenth the Unesco executive board in Paris officially endorsed Satun one of the 13 new sites around the world. Unesco said the Satun Geopark covers an area of over two thousand five hundred square kilometers and contains over 500 million years of geological and natural history, as well as being home to many ethnic groups with rich cultural traditions. Pataraphon Ratanapichetchai, Satun’s governor, expects more tourists after the announcement and said Satun has been preparing for this for the last 2 years.
