During the morning of April the thirteenth, Sujin Chaichumsak, governor of Thailand’s Ayuthya province, led officials and residents to celebrate their New Year, or Songkran festival, in a traditional blessing ceremony performed by a monk and the offering of food to monks in its famous historical park. A number of elephants, the national animal, also participated. Many of the participants dressed in traditional Thai costumes, inspired by Channel 3’s popular Thai drama, Love Destiny, in which most of scenes take place in Ayuthaya, the capital of Thailand from thirteen fifty to seventeen sixty seven.
