On April the fifth a clip showing a police volunteer in Thailand’s resort town of Pattaya stopping a foreign tourist’s motorcycle and removing the keys went viral. His actions attracted considerable on line criticism. A passerby told the volunteer that he had no right to confiscate the keys. However, the volunteer claimed that the motorcycle had stopped beyond the white line at traffic lights and that the motorcyclist appeared intoxicated. The police volunteer issued a warning and let them go. Pol Colonel Apichai Krobphetch, Pattaya city superintendent, defended the volunteer, saying he was only doing as he had been instructed by police - to check on motorcyclists.
