On March the twenty first, local media reported heavy smog affecting western areas of Thailand’s Tak province. That area includes the border town of Mae Sot, which is one of Thailand’s special economic zones. Myanmar’s firefighters said they were trying to deal with over one hundred forest fires spread across one hundred acres of land in Myawaddy, which is across the border from Mae Sot. The fires are burning so fiercely that fire trucks are unable to extinguish them to reduce the smog blanketing Myawaddy and Thailand’s Tak province. To date one hundred and sixty six commercial flights in and outbound from Mae Sot have been delayed.
