Thai media has been reporting on the country’s recent rabies outbreak which has now spread to as many as 30 provinces, including Prachuap Kirikhan. However, the local government there does not have enough public funds to offer free vaccines for all cats and dogs in the province. Suratjira Petsong, a veterinarian, decided to provide free vaccinations, purchased with her own money, for local pets. This act of charity has resulted in hundreds of owners bringing their pets to be inoculated. Suratjira said people are in a panic from the reports of the disease spreading, and four times as many people are bringing their pets to get vaccinated compared to a year ago.
