On the sixth of March, chief of Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park, Worapot Lomlim expressed concern about substantial damage to coral reefs in Thailand’s Maya bay and other areas around Phi Phi Island. Now, eighty percent of the coral reef in that area has been damaged. In Maya bay, a key contributor to the problem is the influx of tourists; there are approximately 20 tourist boats operating in the area. Some visitors even carve names on the coral and leave it on the beaches. In order to stop the vandalism, tour guides have been instructed to tell visitors that this act is against the law.
