At around nine thirty PM on February the sixth a massive fire broke out at a tourist hotspot on Thailand’s Phi Phi Island. The fire started in the October Hostel & Resto, a small hostel, before spreading to at least 25 shops and hotels nearby. The hostel was evacuated and, for 3 hours, over two hundred tourists and residents joined forces to fight the fire. A gas cylinder explosion is believed to have started the fire, resulting in nine injures to locals and foreign tourists, mostly suffering minor burns and the effects of smoke inhalation. An investigation is underway.
