The UK’s Foreign Office has sold its embassy in Bangkok for 420 million pounds, or about 19 billion baht. It is the largest property sale in the Foreign Office’s history and the most expensive land sale in Thailand. Next year British diplomats will move to a new office, in a tower block, leased for the next fifteen years. The money raised will be used to prepare the new office and to renovate other UK embassies around the world. The colonial-era embassy was built in 1922 on the nine-acre site on Wittayu Road which, at that time, was on the outskirts of Bangkok. Thailand’s Central Group is expected to buy the land.
