On January the thirtieth, police responded to a report of a van carrying Chinese tourists which had overturned on a highway in Thailand’s Southern Phang Nga Province. Rescuers had to use special equipment to extract thirteen passengers from the damaged van, nine of whom suffered serious injury and were sent to hospital. Fifty two year old Suchart Aduman, the driver, said he was taking the tourists from the airport to their hotel in fog when a motorcycle cut in front, causing him to swerve to avoid hitting the bike. The van then crashed into a roadside pole and turned over.
