The perceived higher prices charged at airport outlets are a worldwide problem. However, Thai international airports, including the airports in Chiangmai and Songkla, are checking the prices of their food and beverages after the Thai government ordered an investigation. The order came in response to a Facebook complaint by a Japanese business man, Akihiro Tomikawa. He claimed that the food sold in Bangkok’s Donmueng airport is highly overpriced, and this may drive the tourists away. Local media investigated and found that most the food prices are about double normal street prices.
