VALUABLE RUBBISH
Satthasamut School in Thailand’s Samut Songkhram has launched a Zero Waste Campaign, having its students drop used plastic bottles in a receptacle near the school gates before going home each day. At the end of the week, the school collects and sells the bottles to the school’s waste bank, with the proceeds being used for school activities, like sports day.
Miss Patcharakamol Trivitthayakul, the manager of the school waste bank says the campaign not only reduces rubbish in the school area, but teaches students the importance of waste recycling. Each week the school receives over 700 baht from the scheme.
