On the twenty sixth of December, a group of volunteers called “Trash Hero”, comprised mostly of foreigners, launched the “Chiangmai Clean City” campaign, to remove trash from Thailand’s northern capital. The event is an opportunity to bring locals and tourists together to clean up the city prior to the New Year celebrations.
One of the group’s founders, Australian Shanye Rochfort, came to Chiangmai years ago as a tourist, fell in love with the city and decided to stay. The increase in tourism has meant an increase in garbage and the group now has 25 foreign and 15 Thai members helping to keep it clean. They are seeking new members using social media.
