On December the twenty first the construction of Thailand’s first high speed train project, in partnership with China, broke ground at a historical site in Nakorn Ratchasima’s Pakchong District, where King Rama the fifth started construction of the country’s first Northeast-bound railroad more than a century ago. Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha presided over the ceremony. This is the first phase of the 252 km Bangkok-Nongkhai route which will carry trains travelling at up to 250 km per hour, and it is expected to be in service in 4 years from now.
