At the end of October, Sao Jaduen, headman of a small town in Thailand’s Chiang Mai Province, visited a mysterious hot spring unearthed in the middle of a paddy field owned by farmer Pad Pudok. The spring was found when the ground was excavated looking for fresh water. What they found was water, but sulfurous hot water… about 50 degrees Celsius. The water was used on corn fields, but the corn died. Pad later changed to rice farming. Two other hot springs were found nearby and, until experts arrive to investigate, the headman plans to install pipes to take the water to every local household, so villagers can have warm showers in winter.
