The price of Marigolds in Thailand risen 200 percent, but this is not deterring Thais from buying them in order to decorate their houses to commemorate the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Marigold farmers in Loei Province are struggling to meet demand as the yellow flowers are in such high demandahead of the royal funeral.
Somsak Thongwat, a Marigold farmer, said demand is so high that supplies of Marigolds are running very low, hence the increase from 10 to 30 Baht per plant. Most orders are from both public and private organizations across the country.
Phu Rua district is home to the largest marigold farms in Thailand and Somsak is looking forward to seeing Marigolds blooming throughout Thailand, especially in October.
