For the first time in five years, Thailand is to increase the minimum daily wage nationwide in an attempt to tackle income inequality. After over 6 hours of talks, the Permanent Secretary at the Labour Ministry and chairman of the national wage committee, Jarin Jakkaphark, announced late on January the eighteenth that all provinces would see the minimum wage increase between five and twenty two baht. This means new minimum daily wages range between three hundred and eight and three hundred and thirty Baht, a 2 to 7 percent increase. The wage rises will come into effect on April the first.
