On October the tenth, media in Thailand’s border town of Mae Sot reported an unusual incident in neighboring Myanmar’s Mawlamyine Province. Dozens of villagers gathered to collect uncut rubies found lying on a one kilometer stretch of road in Mudon. The report said the raw gemstones were contained in trucks of soil brought from mountain sites to fill flooded areas in the monsoon season. Rubies covered in dirt fell along the road the trucks used. A passer-by found the stones and the word soon spread. It’s believed that the rubies found are worth over a million Thai baht. Maylamyine is one hundred and thirty kilometers from Thailand’s Mae Sot.
